بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Wa-in kadoo layastafizzoonaka minaal-ardi liyukhrijooka minha wa-ithan layalbathoona khilafaka illa qaleelan وإن كادوا ليستفزونك من الأرض ليخرجوك منها وإذا لا يلبثون خلافك إلا قليلا
وَإِن كَادُواْ لَيَسْتَفِزُّونَكَ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ لِيُخْرِجُوكَ مِنْهَا وَإِذًا لاَّ يَلْبَثُونَ خِلاَفَكَ إِلاَّ قَلِيلاً

  اور کفار یہ بھی چاہتے تھے کہ آپ کے قدم سرزمینِ (مکّہ) سے اکھاڑ دیں تاکہ وہ آپ کو یہاں سے نکال سکیں اور (اگر بالفرض ایسا ہو جاتا تو) اس وقت وہ (خود بھی) آپ کے پیچھے تھوڑی سی مدت کے سوا ٹھہر نہ سکتے

Yousuf AliTheir purpose was to scare thee off the land, in order to expel thee; but in that case they would not have stayed (therein) after thee, except for a little while.

Ahmed Aliاور وہ تو تجھے اس زمین سے دھکیل دینے کو تھے تاکہ تجھے اس سے نکال دیں پھر وہ بھی تیرے بعد بہت ہی کم ٹھرتے

Abul Ala Maududiاور یہ لوگ اس بات پر بھی تلے رہے ہیں کہ تمہارے قدم اِس سر زمین سے اکھاڑ دیں اور تمہیں یہاں سے نکال باہر کریں لیکن اگر یہ ایسا کریں گے تو تمہارے بعد یہ خود یہاں کچھ زیادہ دیر نہ ٹھیر سکیں گے

SarwarThey try to annoy you so that they can expel you from the land. Had they been successful, no one would have been left behind except a few.
H/K/SaheehAnd indeed, they were about to drive you from the land to evict you therefrom. And then [when they do], they will not remain [there] after you, except for a little.
MalikThey almost scare you off the land, to expel you from it. If they do so, they will not be able to stay here much longer after you.[76]
Maulana Ali**And surely they purposed to unsettle thee from the land that they might expel thee from it, and then they will not tarry after thee but a little.
Free MindsAnd they nearly frightened you to drive you out of the land. But in that case, they would have shortly been destroyed after you were gone.
Qaribullah They very nearly provoked you to drive you out of the land, but they would have only lingered for a little while after you.
George SaleThe unbelievers had likewise almost caused thee to depart the land, that they might have expelled thee thence: But then should they not have tarried therein after thee, except a little while.
JM RodwellAnd truly they had almost caused thee to quit the land, in order wholly to drive thee forth from it: but then, themselves should have tarried but a little after thee.

Khalifa**They almost banished you from the land to get rid of you, so they could revert as soon as you left.
Hilali/Khan**And Verily, they were about to frighten you so much as to drive you out from the land. But in that case they would not have stayed (therein) after you, expcept for a little while.
QXP Shabbir Ahemd**Since they saw that they could not persuade you, they wished to drive you out (of Madinah as well.) If they had done that, (they would have lost the stabilizing force of your presence), and would have annihilated one another in a short while.
