| بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ |
| 1. [2:40] | Ya banee isra-eela othkurooniAAmatiya allatee anAAamtu AAalaykum waawfoo biAAahdee oofibiAAahdikum wa-iyyaya fairhabooni |  يا بني إسرائيل اذكروا نعمتي التي أنعمت عليكم وأوفوا بعهدي أوف بعهدكم وإياي فارهبونيَا بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ اذْكُرُواْ نِعْمَتِيَ الَّتِي أَنْعَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَأَوْفُواْ بِعَهْدِي أُوفِ بِعَهْدِكُمْ وَإِيَّايَ فَارْهَبُونِ | |||||

| Tahir ul Qadri | اے اولادِ یعقوب! میرے وہ انعام یاد کرو جو میں نے تم پر کئے اور تم میرے (ساتھ کیا ہوا) وعدہ پورا کرو میں تمہارے (ساتھ کیا ہوا) وعدہ پورا کروں گا، اور مجھ ہی سے ڈرا کرو | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | O Children of Israel! call to mind the (special) favour which I bestowed upon you, and fulfil your covenant with Me as I fulfil My Covenant with you, and fear none but Me.

[2:41] | Waaminoo bima anzaltu musaddiqanlima maAAakum wala takoonoo awwala kafirinbihi wala tashtaroo bi-ayatee thamananqaleelan wa-iyyaya faittaqooni | وآمنوا بما أنزلت مصدقا لما معكم ولا تكونوا أول كافر به ولا تشتروا بآياتي ثمنا قليلا وإياي فاتقون وَآمِنُواْ بِمَا أَنزَلْتُ مُصَدِّقاً لِّمَا مَعَكُمْ وَلاَ تَكُونُواْ أَوَّلَ كَافِرٍ بِهِ وَلاَ تَشْتَرُواْ بِآيَاتِي ثَمَناً قَلِيلاً وَّإِيَّايَ فَاتَّقُونِ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور اس (کتاب) پر ایمان لاؤ جو میں نے (اپنے رسول محمد صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم پر) اتاری (ہے، حالانکہ) یہ اس کی (اصلاً) تصدیق کرتی ہے جو تمہارے پاس ہے اور تم ہی سب سے پہلے اس کے منکر نہ بنو اور میری آیتوں کو (دنیا کی) تھوڑی سی قیمت پر فروخت نہ کرو اور مجھ ہی سے ڈرتے رہو | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And believe in what I reveal, confirming the revelation which is with you, and be not the first to reject Faith therein, nor sell My Signs for a small price; and fear Me, and Me alone.

| 3. [2:42] | Wala talbisoo alhaqqa bialbatiliwataktumoo alhaqqa waantum taAAlamoona | ولا تلبسوا الحق بالباطل وتكتموا الحق وأنتم تعلمون وَلاَ تَلْبِسُواْ الْحَقَّ بِالْبَاطِلِ وَتَكْتُمُواْ الْحَقَّ وَأَنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور حق کی آمیزش باطل کے ساتھ نہ کرو اور نہ ہی حق کو جان بوجھ کر چھپاؤ | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And cover not Truth with falsehood, nor conceal the Truth when ye know (what it is).

| Words | |ولا - And (do) not| تلبسوا - mix| الحق - the Truth| بالباطل - with [the] falsehood| وتكتموا - and conceal| الحق - the Truth| وأنتم - while you| تعلمون - [you] know.| | ||||||
| 4. [2:43] | Waaqeemoo alssalata waatooalzzakata wairkaAAoo maAAa alrrakiAAeena | وأقيموا الصلاة وآتوا الزكاة واركعوا مع الراكعين وَأَقِيمُواْ الصَّلاَةَ وَآتُواْ الزَّكَاةَ وَارْكَعُواْ مَعَ الرَّاكِعِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور نماز قائم رکھو اور زکوٰۃ دیا کرو اور رکوع کرنے والوں کے ساتھ (مل کر) رکوع کیا کرو | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And be steadfast in prayer; practise regular charity; and bow down your heads with those who bow down (in worship).

| 5. [2:44] | Ata/muroona alnnasa bialbirriwatansawna anfusakum waantum tatloona alkitaba afalataAAqiloona | أتأمرون الناس بالبر وتنسون أنفسكم وأنتم تتلون الكتاب أفلا تعقلون أَتَأْمُرُونَ النَّاسَ بِالْبِرِّ وَتَنْسَوْنَ أَنفُسَكُمْ وَأَنْـتُمْ تَتْلُونَ الْكِتَابَ أَفَلاَ تَعْقِلُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | کیا تم دوسرے لوگوں کو نیکی کا حکم دیتے ہو اور اپنے آپ کو بھول جاتے ہو حالانکہ تم (اللہ کی) کتاب (بھی) پڑھتے ہو، تو کیا تم نہیں سوچتے؟ | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Do ye enjoin right conduct on the people, and forget (To practise it) yourselves, and yet ye study the Scripture? Will ye not understand?

| 6. [2:45] | WaistaAAeenoo bialssabriwaalssalati wa-innaha lakabeeratunilla AAala alkhashiAAeena | واستعينوا بالصبر والصلاة وإنها لكبيرة إلا على الخاشعين وَاسْتَعِينُواْ بِالصَّبْرِ وَالصَّلاَةِ وَإِنَّهَا لَكَبِيرَةٌ إِلاَّ عَلَى الْخَاشِعِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور صبر اور نماز کے ذریعے (اللہ سے) مدد چاہو، اور بیشک یہ گراں ہے مگر (ان) عاجزوں پر (ہرگز) نہیں (جن کے دل محبتِ الٰہی سے خستہ اور خشیتِ الٰہی سے شکستہ ہیں) | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Nay, seek (Allah's) help with patient perseverance and prayer: It is indeed hard, except to those who bring a lowly spirit,-

| Words | |واستعينوا - And seek help| بالصبر - through patience| والصلاة - and the prayer;| وإنها - and indeed, it| لكبيرة - (is) surely difficult| إلا - except| على - on| الخاشعين - the humble ones,| | ||||||
| 7. [2:46] | Allatheena yathunnoonaannahum mulaqoo rabbihim waannahum ilayhi rajiAAoona | الذين يظنون أنهم ملاقو ربهم وأنهم إليه راجعون الَّذِينَ يَظُنُّونَ أَنَّهُم مُّلاَقُوا رَبِّهِمْ وَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | (یہ وہ لوگ ہیں) جو یقین رکھتے ہیں کہ وہ اپنے رب سے ملاقات کرنے والے ہیں اور وہ اسی کی طرف لوٹ کر جانے والے ہیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Who bear in mind the certainty that they are to meet their Lord, and that they are to return to Him.

[2:47] | Ya banee isra-eela othkurooniAAmatiya allatee anAAamtu AAalaykum waannee faddaltukumAAala alAAalameena | يا بني إسرائيل اذكروا نعمتي التي أنعمت عليكم وأني فضلتكم على العالمين يَا بَنِي إِسْرَآئِيلَ اذْكُرُواْ نِعْمَتِيَ الَّتِي أَنْعَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَأَنِّي فَضَّلْتُكُمْ عَلَى الْعَالَمِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اے اولادِ یعقوب! میرے وہ انعام یاد کرو جو میں نے تم پر کئے اور یہ کہ میں نے تمہیں (اس زمانے میں) سب لوگوں پر فضیلت دی | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Children of Israel! call to mind the (special) favour which I bestowed upon you, and that I preferred you to all other (for My Message).

[2:48] | Waittaqoo yawman la tajzeenafsun AAan nafsin shay-an wala yuqbalu minha shafaAAatunwala yu/khathu minha AAadlun wala humyunsaroona | واتقوا يوما لا تجزي نفس عن نفس شيئا ولا يقبل منها شفاعة ولا يؤخذ منها عدل ولا هم ينصرون وَاتَّقُواْ يَوْماً لاَّ تَجْزِي نَفْسٌ عَنْ نَّفْسٍ شَيْئاً وَّلاَ يُقْبَلُ مِنْهَا شَفَاعَةٌ وَّلاَ يُؤْخَذُ مِنْهَا عَدْلٌ وَّلاَ هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور اُس دن سے ڈرو جس دن کوئی جان کسی دوسرے کی طرف سے کچھ بدلہ نہ دے سکے گی اور نہ اس کی طرف سے (کسی ایسے شخص کی) کوئی سفارش قبول کی جائے گی (جسے اِذنِ اِلٰہی حاصل نہ ہوگا) اور نہ اس کی طرف سے (جان چھڑانے کے لئے) کوئی معاوضہ قبول کیا جائے گا اور نہ (اَمرِ الٰہی کے خلاف) ان کی اِمداد کی جا سکے گی | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Then guard yourselves against a day when one soul shall not avail another nor shall intercession be accepted for her, nor shall compensation be taken from her, nor shall anyone be helped (from outside).

| Words | |واتقوا - And fear| يوما - a day,| لا - (will) not| تجزي - avail| نفس - any soul| عن - for| نفس - (another) soul| شيئا - anything,| ولا - and not| يقبل - will be accepted| منها - from it| شفاعة - any intercession,| ولا - and not| يؤخذ - will be taken| منها - from it| عدل - a compensation,| ولا - and not| هم - they| ينصرون - will be helped.| | ||||||

[2:49] | Wa-ith najjaynakum min alifirAAawna yasoomoonakum soo-a alAAathabi yuthabbihoonaabnaakum wayastahyoona nisaakum wafee thalikumbalaon min rabbikum AAatheemun | وإذ نجيناكم من آل فرعون يسومونكم سوء العذاب يذبحون أبناءكم ويستحيون نساءكم وفي ذلكم بلاء من ربكم عظيم وَإِذْ نَجَّيْنَاكُمْ مِّنْ آلِ فِرْعَوْنَ يَسُومُونَكُمْ سُوْءَ الْعَذَابِ يُذَبِّحُونَ أَبْنَاءَكُمْ وَيَسْتَحْيُونَ نِسَاءَكُمْ وَفِي ذَلِكُم بَلاَءٌ مِّنْ رَّبِّكُمْ عَظِيمٌ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور (وہ وقت بھی یاد کرو) جب ہم نے تمہیں قومِ فرعون سے نجات بخشی جو تمہیں انتہائی سخت عذاب دیتے تھے تمہارے بیٹوں کو ذبح کرتے اور تمہاری بیٹیوں کو زندہ رکھتے تھے، اور اس میں تمہارے پروردگار کی طرف سے بڑی (کڑی) آزمائش تھی | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And remember, We delivered you from the people of Pharaoh: They set you hard tasks and punishments, slaughtered your sons and let your women-folk live; therein was a tremendous trial from your Lord.

| Words | |وإذ - And when| نجيناكم - We saved you| من - from| آل - (the) people| فرعون - (of) Firaun| يسومونكم - (who were) afflicting you (with)| سوء - horrible| العذاب - torment,| يذبحون - slaughtering| أبناءكم - your sons| ويستحيون - and letting live| نساءكم - your women.| وفي - And in| ذلكم - that| بلاء - (was) a trial| من - from| ربكم - your Lord| عظيم - great.| | ||||||
| 11. [2:50] | Wa-ith faraqna bikumu albahrafaanjaynakum waaghraqna ala firAAawnawaantum tanthuroona | وإذ فرقنا بكم البحر فأنجيناكم وأغرقنا آل فرعون وأنتم تنظرون وَإِذْ فَرَقْنَا بِكُمُ الْبَحْرَ فَأَنجَيْنَاكُمْ وَأَغْرَقْنَا آلَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَأَنتُمْ تَنظُرُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور جب ہم نے تمہیں (بچانے کے) لئے دریا کو پھاڑ دیا سو ہم نے تمہیں (اس طرح) نجات عطا کی اور (دوسری طرف) ہم نے تمہاری آنکھوں کے سامنے قومِ فرعون کو غرق کر دیا | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And remember We divided the sea for you and saved you and drowned Pharaoh's people within your very sight.

| Words | |وإذ - And when| فرقنا - We parted| بكم - for you| البحر - the sea,| فأنجيناكم - then We saved you,| وأغرقنا - and We drowned| آل - (the) people| فرعون - (of) Firaun| وأنتم - while you| تنظرون - (were) looking.| | ||||||

[2:51] | Wa-ith waAAadna moosaarbaAAeena laylatan thumma ittakhathtumu alAAijla minbaAAdihi waantum thalimoona | وإذ واعدنا موسى أربعين ليلة ثم اتخذتم العجل من بعده وأنتم ظالمون وَإِذْ وَاعَدْنَا مُوسَى أَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً ثُمَّ اتَّخَذْتُمُ الْعِجْلَ مِن بَعْدِهِ وَأَنتُمْ ظَالِمُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور (وہ وقت بھی یاد کرو) جب ہم نے موسیٰ (علیہ السلام) سے چالیس راتوں کا وعدہ فرمایا تھا پھر تم نے موسیٰ (علیہ السلام کے چلّہءِ اعتکاف میں جانے) کے بعد بچھڑے کو (اپنا) معبود بنا لیا اور تم واقعی بڑے ظالم تھے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And remember We appointed forty nights for Moses, and in his absence ye took the calf (for worship), and ye did grievous wrong.

| Words | |وإذ - And when| واعدنا - We appointed| موسى - (for) Musa| أربعين - forty| ليلة - nights.| ثم - Then| اتخذتم - you took| العجل - the calf| من - from| بعده - after him| وأنتم - and you| ظالمون - (were) wrongdoers.| | ||||||
| 13. [2:52] | Thumma AAafawna AAankum min baAAdi thalikalaAAallakum tashkuroona | ثم عفونا عنكم من بعد ذلك لعلكم تشكرون ثُمَّ عَفَوْنَا عَنكُمْ مِّنْ بَعْدِ ذَلِكَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | پھر ہم نے اس کے بعد (بھی) تمہیں معاف کر دیا تاکہ تم شکرگزار ہو جاؤ | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Even then We did forgive you; there was a chance for you to be grateful.

| Words | |ثم - Then| عفونا - We forgave| عنكم - you| من - from| بعد - after| ذلك - that,| لعلكم - so that you may| تشكرون - (be) grateful.| | ||||||
| 14. [2:53] | Wa-ith atayna moosaalkitaba waalfurqana laAAallakum tahtadoona | وإذ آتينا موسى الكتاب والفرقان لعلكم تهتدون وَإِذْ آتَيْنَا مُوسَى الْكِتَابَ وَالْفُرْقَانَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَهْتَدُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور جب ہم نے موسیٰ (علیہ السلام) کو کتاب اور حق و باطل میں فرق کرنے والا (معجزہ) عطا کیا تاکہ تم راہِ ہدایت پاؤ | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And remember We gave Moses the Scripture and the Criterion (Between right and wrong): There was a chance for you to be guided aright.

| Words | |وإذ - And when| آتينا - We gave| موسى - Musa| الكتاب - the Book| والفرقان - and the Criterion,| لعلكم - perhaps you| تهتدون - (would be) guided.| | ||||||

[2:54] | Wa-ith qala moosaliqawmihi ya qawmi innakum thalamtumanfusakum biittikhathikumu alAAijla fatooboo ilabari-ikum faoqtuloo anfusakum thalikumkhayrun lakum AAinda bari-ikum fataba AAalaykuminnahu huwa alttawwabu alrraheemu | وإذ قال موسى لقومه يا قوم إنكم ظلمتم أنفسكم باتخاذكم العجل فتوبوا إلى بارئكم فاقتلوا أنفسكم ذلكم خير لكم عند بارئكم فتاب عليكم إنه هو التواب الرحيم وَإِذْ قَالَ مُوسَى لِقَوْمِهِ يَا قَوْمِ إِنَّكُمْ ظَلَمْتُمْ أَنفُسَكُمْ بِاتِّخَاذِكُمُ الْعِجْلَ فَتُوبُواْ إِلَى بَارِئِكُمْ فَاقْتُلُواْ أَنْـفُسَكُمْ ذَلِكُمْ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ عِندَ بَارِئِكُمْ فَتَابَ عَلَيْكُمْ إِنَّهُ هُوَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور جب موسیٰ (علیہ السلام) نے اپنی قوم سے کہا: اے میری قوم! بیشک تم نے بچھڑے کو (اپنا معبود) بنا کر اپنی جانوں پر (بڑا) ظلم کیا ہے، تو اب اپنے پیدا فرمانے والے (حقیقی رب) کے حضور توبہ کرو، پس (آپس میں) ایک دوسرے کو قتل کر ڈالو (اس طرح کہ جنہوں نے بچھڑے کی پرستش نہیں کی اور اپنے دین پر قائم رہے ہیں وہ بچھڑے کی پرستش کر کے دین سے پھر جانے والوں کو سزا کے طور پر قتل کر دیں)، یہی (عمل) تمہارے لئے تمہارے خالق کے نزدیک بہترین (توبہ) ہے، پھر اس نے تمہاری توبہ قبول فرما لی، یقینا وہ بڑا ہی توبہ قبول کرنے والا مہربان ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And remember Moses said to his people: "O my people! Ye have indeed wronged yourselves by your worship of the calf: So turn (in repentance) to your Maker, and slay yourselves (the wrong-doers); that will be better for you in the sight of your Maker." Then He turned towards you (in forgiveness): For He is Oft-Returning, Most Merciful.

| Words | |وإذ - And when| قال - said| موسى - Musa| لقومه - to his people,| يا - O| قوم - "O my people!| إنكم - Indeed, you| ظلمتم - [you] have wronged| أنفسكم - yourselves| باتخاذكم - by your taking| العجل - the calf.| فتوبوا - So turn in repentance| إلى - to| بارئكم - your Creator,| فاقتلوا - and kill| أنفسكم - yourselves.| ذلكم - That| خير - (is) better| لكم - for you| عند - with| بارئكم - your Creator."| فتاب - Then He turned| عليكم - towards you.| إنه - Indeed He!| هو - He| التواب - (is) the-returning,| الرحيم - the Most Merciful.| | ||||||

[2:55] | Wa-ith qultum ya moosalan nu/mina laka hatta nara Allahajahratan faakhathatkumu alssaAAiqatu waantumtanthuroona | وإذ قلتم يا موسى لن نؤمن لك حتى نرى الله جهرة فأخذتكم الصاعقة وأنتم تنظرون وَإِذْ قُلْتُمْ يَا مُوسَى لَن نُّؤْمِنَ لَكَ حَتَّى نَرَى اللَّهَ جَهْرَةً فَأَخَذَتْكُمُ الصَّاعِقَةُ وَأَنتُمْ تَنظُرُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور جب تم نے کہا: اے موسیٰ! ہم آپ پر ہرگز ایمان نہ لائیں گے یہاں تک کہ ہم اللہ کو (آنکھوں کے سامنے) بالکل آشکارا دیکھ لیں پس (اس پر) تمہیں کڑک نے آلیا (جو تمہاری موت کا باعث بن گئی) اور تم (خود یہ منظر) دیکھتے رہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And remember ye said: "O Moses! We shall never believe in thee until we see Allah manifestly," but ye were dazed with thunder and lighting even as ye looked on.

| Words | |وإذ - And when| قلتم - you said,| يا - O| موسى - "O Musa!| لن - Never| نؤمن - (will) we believe| لك - in you| حتى - until| نرى - we see| الله - Allah| جهرة - manifestly."| فأخذتكم - So seized you| الصاعقة - the thunderbolt| وأنتم - while you| تنظرون - (were) looking.| | ||||||
| 17. [2:56] | Thumma baAAathnakum min baAAdimawtikum laAAallakum tashkuroona | ثم بعثناكم من بعد موتكم لعلكم تشكرون ثُمَّ بَعَثْنَاكُم مِّنْ بَعْدِ مَوْتِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | پھر ہم نے تمہارے مرنے کے بعد تمہیں (دوبارہ) زندہ کیا تاکہ تم (ہمارا) شکر ادا کرو | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Then We raised you up after your death: Ye had the chance to be grateful.

[2:59] | Fabaddala allatheena thalamooqawlan ghayra allathee qeela lahum faanzalna AAalaallatheena thalamoo rijzan mina alssama-ibima kanoo yafsuqoona | فبدل الذين ظلموا قولا غير الذي قيل لهم فأنزلنا على الذين ظلموا رجزا من السماء بما كانوا يفسقون فَبَدَّلَ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ قَوْلاً غَيْرَ الَّذِي قِيلَ لَهُمْ فَأَنْـزَلْنَا عَلَى الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ رِجْزاً مِّنَ السَّمَآءِ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَفْسُقُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | پھر (ان) ظالموں نے اس قول کو جو ان سے کہا گیا تھا ایک اور کلمہ سے بدل ڈالا سو ہم نے (ان) ظالموں پر آسمان سے (بصورتِ طاعون) سخت آفت اتار دی اس وجہ سے کہ وہ (مسلسل) حکم عدولی کر رہے تھے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | But the transgressors changed the word from that which had been given them; so We sent on the transgressors a plague from heaven, for that they infringed (Our command) repeatedly.

[2:57] | Wathallalna AAalaykumualghamama waanzalna AAalaykumu almanna waalssalwakuloo min tayyibati ma razaqnakum wamathalamoona walakin kanooanfusahum yathlimoona | وظللنا عليكم الغمام وأنزلنا عليكم المن والسلوى كلوا من طيبات ما رزقناكم وما ظلمونا ولكن كانوا أنفسهم يظلمون وَظَلَّلْنَا عَلَيْكُمُ الْغَمَامَ وَأَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْكُمُ الْمَنَّ وَالسَّلْوَى كُلُواْ مِن طَيِّبَاتِ مَا رَزَقْنَاكُمْ وَمَا ظَلَمُونَا وَلَـكِنْ كَانُواْ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور (یاد کرو) جب ہم نے تم پر (وادئ تِیہ میں) بادل کا سایہ کئے رکھا اور ہم نے تم پر مَنّ و سلوٰی اتارا کہ تم ہماری عطا کی ہوئی پاکیزہ چیزوں میں سے کھاؤ، سو انہوں نے (نافرمانی اور ناشکری کر کے) ہمارا کچھ نہیں بگاڑا مگر اپنی ہی جانوں پر ظلم کرتے رہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And We gave you the shade of clouds and sent down to you Manna and quails, saying: "Eat of the good things We have provided for you:" (But they rebelled); to us they did no harm, but they harmed their own souls.

| Words | |وظللنا - And We shaded| عليكم - [over] you| الغمام - (with) [the] clouds| وأنزلنا - and We sent down| عليكم - to you| المن - [the] manna| والسلوى - and [the] quails,| كلوا - "Eat| من - from| طيبات - (the) good things| ما - that| رزقناكم - We have provided you."| وما - And not| ظلمونا - they wronged Us,| ولكن - but| كانوا - they were| أنفسهم - (to) themselves| يظلمون - doing wrong.| | ||||||

[2:63] | Wa-ith akhathna meethaqakumwarafaAAna fawqakumu alttoora khuthooma ataynakum biquwwatin waothkurooma feehi laAAallakum tattaqoona | وإذ أخذنا ميثاقكم ورفعنا فوقكم الطور خذوا ما آتيناكم بقوة واذكروا ما فيه لعلكم تتقون وَإِذْ أَخَذْنَا مِيْثَاقَكُمْ وَرَفَعْنَا فَوْقَكُمُ الطُّورَ خُذُواْ مَا آتَيْنَاكُمْ بِقُوَّةٍ وَّاذْكُرُواْ مَا فِيهِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور (یاد کرو) جب ہم نے تم سے پختہ عہد لیا اور تمہارے اوپر طور کو اٹھا کھڑا کیا، کہ جو کچھ ہم نے تمہیں دیا ہے اسے مضبوطی سے پکڑے رہو اور جو کچھ اس (کتاب تورات) میں (لکھا) ہے اسے یاد رکھو تاکہ تم پرہیزگار بن جاؤ | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And remember We took your covenant and We raised above you (The towering height) of Mount (Sinai) : (Saying): "Hold firmly to what We have given you and bring (ever) to remembrance what is therein: Perchance ye may fear Allah."

[2:58] | Wa-ith qulna odkhuloo hathihialqaryata fakuloo minha haythu shi/tum raghadan waodkhulooalbaba sujjadan waqooloo hittatun naghfirlakum khatayakum wasanazeedu almuhsineena | وإذ قلنا ادخلوا هذه القرية فكلوا منها حيث شئتم رغدا وادخلوا الباب سجدا وقولوا حطة نغفر لكم خطاياكم وسنزيد المحسنين وَإِذْ قُلْنَا ادْخُلُواْ هَـذِهِ الْقَرْيَةَ فَكُلُواْ مِنْهَا حَيْثُ شِئْتُمْ رَغَداً وَّادْخُلُواْ الْبَابَ سُجَّداً وَّقُولُواْ حِطَّةٌ نَّغْفِرْ لَكُمْ خَطَايَاكُمْ وَسَنَزِيدُ الْمُحْسِنِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور (یاد کرو) جب ہم نے فرمایا: اس شہر میں داخل ہو جاؤ اور اس میں جہاں سے چاہو خوب جی بھر کے کھاؤ اور (یہ کہ شہر کے) دروازے میں سجدہ کرتے ہوئے داخل ہونا اور یہ کہتے جانا: (اے ہمارے رب! ہم سب خطاؤں کی) بخشش چاہتے ہیں، (تو) ہم تمہاری (گزشتہ) خطائیں معاف فرما دیں گے، اور (علاوہ اس کے) نیکوکاروں کو مزید (لطف و کرم سے) نوازیں گے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And remember We said: "Enter this town, and eat of the plenty therein as ye wish; but enter the gate with humility, in posture and in words, and We shall forgive you your faults and increase (the portion of) those who do good."

| Words | |وإذ - And when| قلنا - We said,| ادخلوا - "Enter| هذه - this| القرية - town,| فكلوا - then eat| منها - from| حيث - wherever| شئتم - you wish[ed]| رغدا - abundantly,| وادخلوا - and enter| الباب - the gate| سجدا - prostrating.| وقولوا - And say,| حطة - "Repentance."| نغفر - We will forgive| لكم - for you| خطاياكم - your sins.| وسنزيد - And We will increase| المحسنين - the good-doers (in reward)."| | ||||||

[2:64] | Thumma tawallaytum min baAAdi thalikafalawla fadlu Allahi AAalaykum warahmatuhulakuntum mina alkhasireena | ثم توليتم من بعد ذلك فلولا فضل الله عليكم ورحمته لكنتم من الخاسرين ثُمَّ تَوَلَّيْتُم مِّنْ بَعْدِ ذَلِكَ فَلَوْلاَ فَضْلُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُ لَكُـنْـتُم مِّنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | پھر اس (عہد اور تنبیہ) کے بعد بھی تم نے روگردانی کی، پس اگر تم پر اللہ کا فضل اور اس کی رحمت نہ ہوتی تو تم یقینا تباہ ہو جاتے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | But ye turned back thereafter: Had it not been for the Grace and Mercy of Allah to you, ye had surely been among the lost.

| Words | |ثم - Then| توليتم - you turned away| من - from| بعد - after| ذلك - that.| فلولا - So if not| فضل - (for the) Grace| الله - (of) Allah| عليكم - upon you| ورحمته - and His Mercy,| لكنتم - surely you would have been| من - of| الخاسرين - the losers.| | ||||||

[2:60] | Wa-ithi istasqa moosaliqawmihi faqulna idrib biAAasaka alhajarafainfajarat minhu ithnata AAashrata AAaynan qadAAalima kullu onasin mashrabahum kuloo waishraboomin rizqi Allahi wala taAAthaw fee al-ardimufsideena | وإذ استسقى موسى لقومه فقلنا اضرب بعصاك الحجر فانفجرت منه اثنتا عشرة عينا قد علم كل أناس مشربهم كلوا واشربوا من رزق الله ولا تعثوا في الأرض مفسدين وَإِذِ اسْتَسْقَى مُوسَى لِقَوْمِهِ فَقُلْنَا اضْرِب بِّعَصَاكَ الْحَجَرَ فَانْفَجَرَتْ مِنْهُ اثْنَتَا عَشْرَةَ عَيْناً قَدْ عَلِمَ كُلُّ أُنَاسٍ مَّشْرَبَهُمْ كُلُواْ وَاشْرَبُواْ مِن رِّزْقِ اللَّهِ وَلاَ تَعْثَوْاْ فِي الْأَرْضِ مُفْسِدِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور (وہ وقت بھی یا دکرو) جب موسیٰ (علیہ السلام) نے اپنی قوم کے لئے پانی مانگا تو ہم نے فرمایا: اپنا عصا اس پتھر پر مارو، پھر اس (پتھر) سے بارہ چشمے پھوٹ پڑے، واقعۃً ہر گروہ نے اپنا اپنا گھاٹ پہچان لیا، (ہم نے فرمایا:) اﷲ کے (عطا کردہ) رزق میں سے کھاؤ اور پیو لیکن زمین میں فساد انگیزی نہ کرتے پھرو | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And remember Moses prayed for water for his people; We said: "Strike the rock with thy staff." Then gushed forth therefrom twelve springs. Each group knew its own place for water. So eat and drink of the sustenance provided by Allah, and do no evil nor mischief on the (face of the) earth.

| Words | |وإذ - And when| استسقى - asked (for) water| موسى - Musa| لقومه - for his people,| فقلنا - [so] We said,| اضرب - "Strike| بعصاك - with your staff| الحجر - the stone."| فانفجرت - Then gushed forth| منه - from it| اثنتا - (of)| عشرة - twelve| عينا - springs.| قد - Indeed| علم - knew| كل - all| أناس - (the) people| مشربهم - their drinking place.| كلوا - "Eat| واشربوا - and drink| من - from| رزق - (the) provision (of)| الله - Allah,| ولا - and (do) not| تعثوا - act wickedly| في - in| الأرض - the earth| مفسدين - spreading corruption."| | ||||||
| 24. [2:62] | Inna allatheena amanoo waallatheenahadoo waalnnasara waalssabi-eenaman amana biAllahi waalyawmi al-akhiriwaAAamila salihan falahum ajruhum AAinda rabbihimwala khawfun AAalayhim wala hum yahzanoona | إن الذين آمنوا والذين هادوا والنصارى والصابئين من آمن بالله واليوم الآخر وعمل صالحا فلهم أجرهم عند ربهم ولا خوف عليهم ولا هم يحزنون إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ وَالَّذِينَ هَادُواْ وَالنَّصَارَى وَالصَّابِئِينَ مَنْ آمَنَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ وَعَمِلَ صَالِحاً فَلَهُمْ أَجْرُهُمْ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ وَلاَ خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلاَ هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | بیشک جو لوگ ایمان لائے اور جو یہودی ہوئے اور (جو) نصاریٰ اور صابی (تھے ان میں سے) جو (بھی) اللہ پر اور آخرت کے دن پر ایمان لایا اور اس نے اچھے عمل کئے، تو ان کے لئے ان کے رب کے ہاں ان کا اجر ہے، ان پر نہ کوئی خوف ہوگا اور نہ وہ رنجیدہ ہوں گے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Those who believe (in the Qur'an), and those who follow the Jewish (scriptures), and the Christians and the Sabians,- any who believe in Allah and the Last Day, and work righteousness, shall have their reward with their Lord; on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.

| Words | |إن - Indeed,| الذين - those who| آمنوا - believed| والذين - and those who| هادوا - became Jews| والنصارى - and the Christians| والصابئين - and the Sabians -| من - who| آمن - believed| بالله - in Allah| واليوم - and the Day| الآخر - [the] Last| وعمل - and did| صالحا - righteous deeds,| فلهم - so for them| أجرهم - their reward| عند - (is) with| ربهم - their Lord| ولا - and no| خوف - fear| عليهم - on them| ولا - and not| هم - they| يحزنون - will grieve.| | ||||||
| 25. [2:65] | Walaqad AAalimtumu allatheenaiAAtadaw minkum fee alssabti faqulna lahum koonooqiradatan khasi-eena | ولقد علمتم الذين اعتدوا منكم في السبت فقلنا لهم كونوا قردة خاسئين وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ الَّذِينَ اعْتَدَواْ مِنكُمْ فِي السَّبْتِ فَقُلْنَا لَهُمْ كُونُواْ قِرَدَةً خَاسِئِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور (اے یہود!) تم یقیناً ان لوگوں سے خوب واقف ہو جنہوں نے تم میں سے ہفتہ کے دن (کے احکام کے بارے میں) سرکشی کی تھی تو ہم نے ان سے فرمایا کہ تم دھتکارے ہوئے بندر بن جاؤ | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And well ye knew those amongst you who transgressed in the matter of the Sabbath: We said to them: "Be ye apes, despised and rejected."

| 26. [2:66] | FajaAAalnaha nakalanlima bayna yadayha wama khalfahawamawAAithatan lilmuttaqeena | فجعلناها نكالا لما بين يديها وما خلفها وموعظة للمتقين فَجَعَلْنَاهَا نَكَالاً لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهَا وَمَا خَلْفَهَا وَمَوْعِظَةً لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | پس ہم نے اس (واقعہ) کو اس زمانے اور اس کے بعد والے لوگوں کے لئے (باعثِ) عبرت اور پرہیزگاروں کے لئے (مُوجبِ) نصیحت بنا دیا | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | So We made it an example to their own time and to their posterity, and a lesson to those who fear Allah.

[2:67] | Wa-ith qala moosaliqawmihi inna Allaha ya/murukum an tathbahoobaqaratan qaloo atattakhithuna huzuwan qalaaAAoothu biAllahi an akoona mina aljahileena | وإذ قال موسى لقومه إن الله يأمركم أن تذبحوا بقرة قالوا أتتخذنا هزوا قال أعوذ بالله أن أكون من الجاهلين وَإِذْ قَالَ مُوسَى لِقَوْمِهِ إِنَّ اللّهَ يَأْمُرُكُمْ أَنْ تَذْبَحُواْ بَقَرَةً قَالُواْ أَتَتَّخِذُنَا هُزُواً قَالَ أَعُوذُ بِاللّهِ أَنْ أَكُونَ مِنَ الْجَاهِلِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور (وہ واقعہ بھی یاد کرو) جب موسیٰ (علیہ السلام) نے اپنی قوم سے فرمایا کہ بیشک اللہ تمہیں حکم دیتا ہے کہ ایک گائے ذبح کرو، (تو) وہ بولے: کیا آپ ہمیں مسخرہ بناتے ہیں؟ موسیٰ (علیہ السلام) نے فرمایا: اللہ کی پناہ مانگتا ہوں (اس سے) کہ میں جاہلوں میں سے ہو جاؤں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And remember Moses said to his people: "Allah commands that ye sacrifice a heifer." They said: "Makest thou a laughing-stock of us?" He said: "Allah save me from being an ignorant (fool)!"

[2:68] | Qaloo odAAu lana rabbakayubayyin lana ma hiya qala innahu yaqooluinnaha baqaratun la faridun walabikrun AAawanun bayna thalika faifAAaloo matu/maroona | قالوا ادع لنا ربك يبين لنا ما هي قال إنه يقول إنها بقرة لا فارض ولا بكر عوان بين ذلك فافعلوا ما تؤمرون قَالُواْ ادْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ يُبَيِّن لَّنَا مَا هِيَ قَالَ إِنَّهُ يَقُولُ إِنَّهَا بَقَرَةٌ لاَّ فَارِضٌ وَّلاَ بِكْرٌ عَوَانٌ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ فَافْعَلُواْ مَا تُؤْمَرُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | (تب) انہوں نے کہا: آپ ہمارے لئے اپنے رب سے دعا کریں کہ وہ ہم پر واضح کر دے کہ (وہ) گائے کیسی ہو؟ (موسیٰ علیہ السلام نے) کہا: بیشک وہ فرماتا ہے کہ وہ گائے نہ تو بوڑھی ہو اور نہ بالکل کم عمر (اَوسَر)، بلکہ درمیانی عمر کی (راس) ہو، پس اب تعمیل کرو جس کا تمہیں حکم دیا گیا ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | They said: "Beseech on our behalf Thy Lord to make plain to us what (heifer) it is!" He said; "He says: The heifer should be neither too old nor too young, but of middling age. Now do what ye are commanded!"

[2:69] | Qaloo odAAu lana rabbakayubayyin lana ma lawnuha qala innahuyaqoolu innaha baqaratun safrao faqiAAunlawnuha tasurru alnnathireena | قالوا ادع لنا ربك يبين لنا ما لونها قال إنه يقول إنها بقرة صفراء فاقع لونها تسر الناظرين قَالُواْ ادْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ يُبَيِّن لَّنَا مَا لَوْنُهَا قَالَ إِنَّهُ يَقُولُ إِنََّهَا بَقَرَةٌ صَفْرَاءُ فَاقِـعٌ لَّوْنُهَا تَسُرُّ النَّاظِرِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | وہ (پھر) بولے: اپنے رب سے ہمارے حق میں دعا کریں وہ ہمارے لئے واضح کر دے کہ اس کا رنگ کیسا ہو؟ (موسیٰ علیہ السلام نے) کہا: وہ فرماتا ہے کہ وہ گائے زرد رنگ کی ہو، اس کی رنگت خوب گہری ہو (ایسی جاذبِ نظر ہو کہ) دیکھنے والوں کو بہت بھلی لگے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | They said: "Beseech on our behalf Thy Lord to make plain to us Her colour." He said: "He says: A fawn-coloured heifer, pure and rich in tone, the admiration of beholders!"

[2:70] | Qaloo odAAu lana rabbakayubayyin lana ma hiya inna albaqara tashabahaAAalayna wa-inna in shaa Allahulamuhtadoona | قالوا ادع لنا ربك يبين لنا ما هي إن البقر تشابه علينا وإنا إن شاء الله لمهتدون قَالُواْ ادْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ يُبَيِّن لَّنَا مَا هِيَ إِنَّ البَقَرَ تَشَابَهَ عَلَيْنَا وَإِنَّآ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ لَمُهْتَدُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | (اب) انہوں نے کہا: آپ ہمارے لئے اپنے رب سے درخواست کیجئے کہ وہ ہم پر واضح فرما دے کہ وہ کون سی گائے ہے؟ (کیونکہ) ہم پر گائے مشتبہ ہو گئی ہے، اور یقیناً اگر اللہ نے چاہا تو ہم ضرور ہدایت یافتہ ہو جائیں گے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | They said: "Beseech on our behalf Thy Lord to make plain to us what she is: To us are all heifers alike: We wish indeed for guidance, if Allah wills."
