| بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ |
| 1. [3:154] | Thumma anzala AAalaykum min baAAdi alghammiamanatan nuAAasan yaghsha ta-ifatan minkumwata-ifatun qad ahammat-hum anfusuhum yathunnoonabiAllahi ghayra alhaqqi thannaaljahiliyyati yaqooloona hal lana mina al-amri minshay-in qul inna al-amra kullahu lillahi yukhfoona feeanfusihim ma la yubdoona laka yaqooloona law kanalana mina al-amri shay-on ma qutilna hahunaqul law kuntum fee buyootikum labaraza allatheena kutibaAAalayhimu alqatlu ila madajiAAihim waliyabtaliyaAllahu ma fee sudoorikum waliyumahhisama fee quloobikum waAllahu AAaleemun bithatialssudoori |  ثم أنزل عليكم من بعد الغم أمنة نعاسا يغشى طائفة منكم وطائفة قد أهمتهم أنفسهم يظنون بالله غير الحق ظن الجاهلية يقولون هل لنا من الأمر من شيء قل إن الأمر كله لله يخفون في أنفسهم ما لا يبدون لك يقولون لو كان لنا من الأمر شيء ما قتلنا هاهنا قل لو كنتم في بيوتكم لبرز الذين كتب عليهم القتل إلى مضاجعهم وليبتلي الله ما في صدوركم وليمحص ما في قلوبكم والله عليم بذات الصدورثُمَّ أَنزَلَ عَلَيْكُم مِّن بَعْدِ الْغَمِّ أَمَنَةً نُّعَاسًا يَغْشَى طَآئِفَةً مِّنكُمْ وَطَآئِفَةٌ قَدْ أَهَمَّتْهُمْ أَنفُسُهُمْ يَظُنُّونَ بِاللّهِ غَيْرَ الْحَقِّ ظَنَّ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ يَقُولُونَ هَل لَّنَا مِنَ الْأَمْرِ مِن شَيْءٍ قُلْ إِنَّ الْأَمْرَ كُلَّهُ لِلَّهِ يُخْفُونَ فِي أَنفُسِهِم مَّا لاَ يُبْدُونَ لَكَ يَقُولُونَ لَوْ كَانَ لَنَا مِنَ الْأَمْرِ شَيْءٌ مَّا قُتِلْنَا هَاهُنَا قُل لَّوْ كُنتُمْ فِي بُيُوتِكُمْ لَبَرَزَ الَّذِينَ كُتِبَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقَتْلُ إِلَى مَضَاجِعِهِمْ وَلِيَبْتَلِيَ اللّهُ مَا فِي صُدُورِكُمْ وَلِيُمَحِّصَ مَا فِي قُلُوبِكُمْ وَاللّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِذَاتِ الصُّدُورِ | |||||

| Tahir ul Qadri | پھر اس نے غم کے بعد تم پر (تسکین کے لئے) غنودگی کی صورت میں امان اتاری جو تم میں سے ایک جماعت پر چھا گئی اور ایک گروہ کو (جو منافقوں کا تھا) صرف اپنی جانوں کی فکر پڑی ہوئی تھی وہ اللہ کے ساتھ ناحق گمان کرتے تھے جو (محض) جاہلیت کے گمان تھے، وہ کہتے ہیں: کیا اس کام میں ہمارے لئے بھی کچھ (اختیار) ہے؟ فرما دیں کہ سب کام اللہ ہی کے ہاتھ میں ہے، وہ اپنے دلوں میں وہ باتیں چھپائے ہوئے ہیں جو آپ پر ظاہر نہیں ہونے دیتے۔ کہتے ہیں کہ اگر اس کام میں کچھ ہمارا اختیار ہوتا تو ہم اس جگہ قتل نہ کئے جاتے۔ فرما دیں: اگر تم اپنے گھروں میں (بھی) ہوتے تب بھی جن کا مارا جانا لکھا جا چکا تھا وہ ضرور اپنی قتل گاہوں کی طرف نکل کر آجاتے، اور یہ اس لئے (کیا گیا) ہے کہ جو کچھ تمہارے سینوں میں ہے اللہ اسے آزمائے اور جو (وسوسے) تمہارے دلوں میں ہیں انہیں خوب صاف کر دے، اور اللہ سینوں کی بات خوب جانتا ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | After (the excitement) of the distress, He sent down calm on a band of you overcome with slumber, while another band was stirred to anxiety by their own feelings, Moved by wrong suspicions of Allah-suspicions due to ignorance. They said: "What affair is this of ours?" Say thou: "Indeed, this affair is wholly Allah's." They hide in their minds what they dare not reveal to thee. They say (to themselves): "If we had had anything to do with this affair, We should not have been in the slaughter here." Say: "Even if you had remained in your homes, those for whom death was decreed would certainly have gone forth to the place of their death"; but (all this was) that Allah might test what is in your breasts and purge what is in your hearts. For Allah knoweth well the secrets of your hearts.

| Ahmed Raza Khan | پھر تم پر غم کے بعد چین کی نیند اتاری کہ تمہاری ایک جماعت کو گھیرے تھی اور ایک گروہ کو اپنی جان کی پڑی تھی اللہ پر بے جا گمان کرتے تھے جاہلیت کے سے گمان، کہتے کیا اس کام میں کچھ ہمارا بھی اختیار ہے تم فرمادو کہ اختیار تو سارا اللہ کا ہے اپنے دلوں میں چھپاتے ہیں جو تم پر ظاہر نہیں کرتے کہتے ہیں، ہمارا کچھ بس ہوتا تو ہم یہاں نہ مارے جاتے، تم فرمادو کہ اگر تم اپنے گھروں میں ہوتے جب بھی جن کا مارا جانا لکھا جاچکا تھا اپنی قتل گاہوں تک نکل آتے اور اس لئے کہ اللہ تمہارے سینوں کی بات آزمائے اور جو کچھ تمہارے دلو ں میں ہے اسے کھول دے اور اللہ دلوں کی بات جانتا ہے | ||||||
| Shabbir Ahmed | پھر نازل فرمائی الہ نے تم پر اس غم کے بعد اطمینان کی کیفیّت اونگھ (کی شکل میں) جو طاری ہوگئی ایک گروہ پر تم میں سے اور ایک گروہ تھا کہ بس فکر تھی ان کو محض اپنی ہی جانوں کی، گمان رکھتے تھے یہ اللہ کے بارے میں جُھوٹے، دَور جاہلیّت کے سے گمان، کہتے تھے کیا ہمارا بھی ہے اس معاملہ میں کچھ (عمل دخل)؟ کہو (اے پیغمبر) بے شک اختیار سارے کا سارا اللہ کا ہے۔ چُھپائے ہوئے ہیں یہ لوگ اپنے دلوں میں ایسی باتیں جو نہیں ظاہر کرتے تم پر، کہتے ہیں اگر ہوتا ہمارا بھی اختیارات میں کچھ حصّہ تو نہ مارے جاتے ہم اس جگہ۔ کہہ دو! اگر ہوتے تم اپنے گھروں میں بھی تو ضرور نکل آتے وہ لوگ کہ لکھ دیا گیا تھا جن کی قسمت میں قتل ہونا، اپنی قتل گاہوں کی طرف اور یہ اس لیے تھا کہ پرکھے اللہ اس کو جو تمہارے سینوں میں ہے اور تاکہ صاف کردے و ہ کھوٹ جو تمہارے دلوں میں ہے اور اللہ خُوب جانتا ہے دلوں کی باتوں کو۔ | ||||||
| Fateh Muhammad Jalandhary | پھر خدا نے غم ورنج کے بعد تم پر تسلی نازل فرمائی (یعنی) نیند کہ تم میں سے ایک جماعت پر طاری ہو گئی اور کچھ لوگ جن کو جان کے لالے پڑ رہے تھے خدا کے بارے میں ناحق (ایام) کفر کے سے گمان کرتے تھے اور کہتے تھے بھلا ہمارے اختیار کی کچھ بات ہے؟ تم کہہ دو کہ بےشک سب باتیں خدا ہی کے اختیار میں ہیں یہ لوگ (بہت سی باتیں) دلوں میں مخفی رکھتے ہیں جو تم پر ظاہر نہیں کرتے تھے کہتے تھے کہ ہمارے بس کی بات ہوتی تو ہم یہاں قتل ہی نہ کیے جاتے کہہ دو کہ اگر تم اپنے گھروں میں بھی ہوتے تو جن کی تقدیر میں مارا جانا لکھا تھا وہ اپنی اپنی قتل گاہوں کی طرف ضرور نکل آتے اس سے غرض یہ تھی کہ خدا تمہارے سینوں کی باتوں کو آزمائے اور جو کچھ تمہارے دلوں میں ہے اس کو خالص اور صاف کر دے اور خدا دلوں کی باتوں سے خوب واقف ہے | ||||||
| Mehmood Al Hassan | پھر تم پر اتارا تنگی کے بعد امن کو جو اونگھ تھی کہ ڈھانک لیا اس اونگھ نے بعضوں کو تم میں سے اور بعضوں کو فکر پڑ رہا تھا اپنی جان کا خیال کرتےتھے اللہ پر جھوٹے خیال جاہلوں جیسے کہتے تھے کچھ بھی کام ہے ہمارے ہاتھ میں تو کہہ سب کام ہے | ||||||
| Abul Ala Maududi | اس غم کے بعد پھر اللہ نے تم میں سے کچھ لوگوں پر ایسی اطمینان کی سی حالت طاری کر دی کہ وہ اونگھنے لگے مگر ایک دوسرا گروہ، جس کے لیے ساری اہمیت بس اپنے مفاد ہی کی تھی، اللہ کے متعلق طرح طرح کے جاہلانہ گمان کرنے لگا جو سراسر خلاف حق تھے یہ لوگ اب کہتے ہیں کہ، "اس کام کے چلانے میں ہمارا بھی کوئی حصہ ہے؟" ان سے کہو "(کسی کا کوئی حصہ نہیں) اِس کام کے سارے اختیارات اللہ کے ہاتھ میں ہیں" دراصل یہ لوگ اپنے دلوں میں جو بات چھپائے ہوئے ہیں اُسے تم پر ظاہر نہیں کرتے ان کا اصل مطلب یہ ہے کہ، "اگر (قیادت کے) اختیارات میں ہمارا کچھ حصہ ہوتا تو یہاں ہم نہ مارے جاتے" ان سے کہہ دو کہ، "اگر تم اپنے گھروں میں بھی ہوتے تو جن لوگوں کی موت لکھی ہوئی تھی وہ خود اپنی قتل گاہوں کی طرف نکل آتے" اور یہ معاملہ جو پیش آیا، یہ تو اس لیے تھا کہ جو کچھ تمہارے سینوں میں پوشیدہ ہے اللہ اُسے آزما لے اور جو کھوٹ تمہارے دلوں میں ہے اُسے چھانٹ دے، اللہ دلوں کا حال خوب جانتا ہے | ||||||

| Literal | Then (He) descended on you from after the grief/depression safety/security, slumbering/dozing (to) cover/make unconscious a group from you, and a group, their selves had interested/concerned them, they suspect with God other than the truth , the pre-Islamic Paganism's/ignorance's suspicion . They say: "Is there for us from a thing from the matter/affair?" Say: "That the matter/affair, all of it (is) to God." They hide in themselves what they do not show to you. They say: "If (there) was for us from the matter/affair a thing, we would not (have) killed/fought here here." Say: "If you were in your houses/homes, those who (it) was written/decreed on them the fighting would have emerged/appeared to their places of lying down (beds), and (for) God to test what is in their hearts (innermosts), and to purify/clarify/cleanse what is in your hearts/minds and God (is) knowledgeable with of the chests (innermosts). | ||||||

They hide within themselves (a thought) which they reveal not unto thee, saying: Had we had any part in the cause we should not have been slain here. Say: Even though ye had been in your houses, those appointed to be slain would have gone forth to the places where they were to lie. (All this hath been) in order that Allah might try what is in your breasts and prove what is in your hearts. Allah is Aware of what is hidden in the breasts (of men). | ||||||

They say: Had we any hand in the affair, we would not have been slain here. They say, "Had we had the matter in our hands, we would not have been killed there." Tell them, "Even if you had stayed in your own homes, your sworn enemies could have attacked you and slain you while you were in your beds. God wanted to test you and purge what existed in your hearts | ||||||

They say, "If there was anything we could have done in the matter, some of us would not have been killed right here." Say, Even if you had been inside your houses, those decreed to be killed would have come out to their death beds." They Say: "Why are we involved in this affair?" Say: "The entire affair is for God." They hide in their souls what they do not show to you, they Say: "If we had a say in this affair then none of us would have been killed here." Say: "If you were inside your own homes, then the ones who have been marked for death would have gone forth to their resting place." God will test what is in your chests and bring out what is in your hearts. God is Knowledgeable as to what is in the chests. | ||||||

Slumber overtook a party, while another party cared only for themselves, thinking of Allah thoughts that were not true, the guess of ignorance, saying: 'Have we any say in the affair? ' Say: 'The entire affair belongs to Allah. ' They conceal in themselves what they do not disclose to you. They say: 'If we had any say in the affair we should not have been killed here. ' Say: 'Had you stayed in your homes, those of you for whom slaying was written would have come out to their (death) beds so that Allah might try what was in your chests and that He will examine what is in your hearts. ' And Allah knows the innermost of the chests. | ||||||
| George Sale | Then he sent down upon you after affliction security; a soft sleep which fell on some part of you; but other part were troubled by their own souls; falsely thinking of God a foolish imagination, saying, will any thing of the matter happen unto us? Say, verily the matter belongeth wholly unto God. They concealed in their minds what they declared not unto thee; saying, if any thing of the matter had happened unto us, we had not been slain here. Say: "Verily, all power of decision does rest with God" - [but as for them,] they are trying to conceal within themselves that [weakness of faith] which they would not reveal unto thee, [O Prophet, by] saying, "If we had any power of decision, we would not have left so many dead behind." Say [unto them]: "Even if you had remained in your homes, those [of you] whose death had been ordained would indeed have gone forth to the places where they were destined to lie down." And [all this befell you] so that God might put to a test all that you harbour in your bosoms, and render your innermost hearts pure of all dross: for God is aware of what is in the hearts [of men]. | ||||||
| Khalifa** | After the setback, He sent down upon you peaceful slumber that pacified some of you. Others among you were selfishly concerned about themselves. They harbored thoughts about GOD that were not right - the same thoughts they had harbored during the days of ignorance. Thus, they said, "Is anything up to us?" Say, "Everything is up to GOD." They concealed inside themselves what they did not reveal to you. They said, "If it was up to us, none of us would have been killed in this battle." Say, "Had you stayed in your homes, those destined to be killed would have crawled into their death beds." GOD thus puts you to the test to bring out your true convictions, and to test what is in your hearts. GOD is fully aware of the innermost thoughts. | ||||||

Slumber overtook a party of you, while another party was thinking about themselves (as how to save their ownselves, ignoring the others and the Prophet SAW) and thought wrongly of Allah - the thought of ignorance. They said, "Have we any part in the affair?" Say you (O Muhammad SAW): "Indeed the affair belongs wholly to Allah." They hide within themselves what they dare not reveal to you, saying: "If we had anything to do with the affair, none of us would have been killed here." Say: "Even if you had remained in your homes, those for whom death was decreed would certainly have gone forth to the place of their death," but that Allah might test what is in your breasts; and to Mahis that which was in your hearts (sins), and Allah is AllKnower of what is in (your) breasts. | ||||||

While another group was anxious with their own feelings and wrong assumptions about Allah due to ignorance. (They were hypocrites worried for their lives). They said, "Do we have any control?" Tell them, "All control belongs to Allah." You can control events only within the framework of His Laws. These hypocrites concealed within themselves what they did not reveal to you. They said, "If we had nothing to do with this battle and had stayed home we would not have been harmed." Say, "Had you stayed in your homes, those destined to be killed would have crawled themselves to the circumstance of death." Allah thus lets you test your real convictions. Allah is Aware of what is in the hearts. | ||||||
