Walanutheeqannahum mina alAAathabial-adna doona alAAathabi al-akbari laAAallahumyarjiAAoona ولنذيقنهم من العذاب الأدنى دون العذاب الأكبر لعلهم يرجعون
وَلَنُذِيقَنَّهُمْ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ الْأَدْنَى دُونَ الْعَذَابِ الْأَكْبَرِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ

  اور ہم ان کو یقیناً (آخرت کے) بڑے عذاب سے پہلے قریب تر (دنیوی) عذاب (کا مزہ) چکھائیں گے تاکہ وہ (کفر سے) باز آجائیں

Yousuf AliAnd indeed We will make them taste of the Penalty of this (life) prior to the supreme Penalty, in order that they may (repent and) return.

Ahmed Aliاور ہم انہیں قریب کا عذاب بھی اس بڑے عذاب سے پہلے چکھائیں گے تاکہ وہ باز آ جائیں
Ahmed Raza Khanاور ضرور ہم انہیں چکھائیں گے کچھ نزدیک کا عذاب اس بڑے عذاب سے پہلے جسے دیکھنے والا امید کرے کہ ابھی باز آئیں گے،
Shabbir Ahmed اور ضرور چکھائیں گے ہم ان کو مزا دنیاوی عذاب کا بڑے عذاب سے پہلے شاید کہ وہ باز آجائیں۔
Fateh Muhammad Jalandharyاور ہم اُن کو (قیامت کے) بڑے عذاب کے سوا عذاب دنیا کا بھی مزہ چکھائیں گے۔ شاید (ہماری طرف) لوٹ آئیں
Mehmood Al Hassanاور البتہ چکھائیں گے ہم ان کو تھوڑا عذاب ورے اس بڑے عذاب سے تاکہ وہ پھر آئیں
Abul Ala Maududiاُس بڑے عذاب سے پہلے ہم اِسی دنیا میں (کسی نہ کسی چھوٹے) عذاب کا مزا اِنہیں چکھاتے رہیں گے، شاید کہ یہ (اپنی باغیانہ روش سے) باز آ جائیں

Maulana Ali**And certainly We will make them taste the nearer punishment before the greater chastisement, that haply they may turn.
Free MindsAnd We will let them taste the worldly retribution before the greater retribution, perhaps they will revert.

Khalifa**We let them taste the smaller retribution (of this world), before they incur the greater retribution (of the Hereafter), that they may (take a hint and) reform.
Hilali/Khan**And verily, We will make them taste of the near torment (i.e. the torment in the life of this world, i.e. disasters, calamities, etc.) prior to the supreme torment (in the Hereafter), in order that they may (repent and) return (i.e. accept Islam).
QXP Shabbir Ahemd**And verily, We make (the violators of the Divine Law) taste the punishment closer at hand before the Greater punishment, so that they might return to righteousness.
