| بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ |
| 1. [7:131] | Fa-itha jaat-humu alhasanatuqaloo lana hathihi wa-in tusibhumsayyi-atun yattayyaroo bimoosa waman maAAahu alainnama ta-iruhum AAinda Allahi walakinnaaktharahum la yaAAlamoona |  فإذا جاءتهم الحسنة قالوا لنا هذه وإن تصبهم سيئة يطيروا بموسى ومن معه ألا إنما طائرهم عند الله ولكن أكثرهم لا يعلمونفَإِذَا جَاءَتْهُمُ الْحَسَنَةُ قَالُواْ لَنَا هَـذِهِ وَإِن تُصِبْهُمْ سَيِّئَةٌ يَطَّيَّرُواْ بِمُوسَى وَمَن مَّعَهُ أَلاَ إِنَّمَا طَائِرُهُمْ عِندَ اللّهِ وَلَـكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لاَ يَعْلَمُونَ | |||||

| Tahir ul Qadri | پھر جب انہیں آسائش پہنچتی تو کہتے: یہ ہماری اپنی وجہ سے ہے۔ اور اگر انہیں سختی پہنچتی، وہ موسٰی (علیہ السلام) اور ان کے (ایمان والے) ساتھیوں کی نسبت بدشگونی کرتے، خبردار! ان کا شگون (یعنی شامتِ اَعمال) تو اللہ ہی کے پاس ہے مگر ان میں سے اکثر لوگ علم نہیں رکھتے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | But when good (times) came, they said, "This is due to us;" When gripped by calamity, they ascribed it to evil omens connected with Moses and those with him! Behold! in truth the omens of evil are theirs in Allah's sight, but most of them do not understand!

| Ahmed Raza Khan | تو جب انہیں بھلائی ملتی کہتے یہ ہمارے لیے ہے اور جب برائی پہنچتی تو موسیٰ اور اس کے ساتھ والوں سے بدشگونی لیتے سن لو ان کے نصیبہ کی شامت تو اللہ کے یہاں ہے لیکن ان میں اکثر کو خبر نہیں، | ||||||
| Shabbir Ahmed | پھر جب آتی اُن پر خوشحالی تو کہتے کہ ہم مستحق ہیں اسی کے اور جب آتی اُن پر بدحالی تو منحوس قرار دیتے موسیٰ اور ا س کے ساتھیوں کو حالانکہ درحقیقت آلِ فرعون کی بدبختی تو اللہ کے پاس (مقدر) تھی لیکن ان میں سے اکثر بے خبر تھے۔ | ||||||
| Fateh Muhammad Jalandhary | تو جب ان کو آسائش حاصل ہوتی تو کہتے کہ ہم اس کے مستحق ہیں۔ اور اگر سختی پہنچتی تو موسیٰ اور ان کے رفیقوں کی بدشگونی بتاتے۔ دیکھو ان کی بدشگونی خدا کے ہاں مقرر ہے لیکن ان میں اکثر نہیں جانتے | ||||||
| Mehmood Al Hassan | پھر جب پہنچی انکو بھلائی کہنے لگے یہ ہے ہمارے لائق اور اگر پہنچی برائی تو نحوست بتلاتے موسٰی کی اور اسکے ساتھ والوں کی سن لو ان کی شومی تو اللہ کے پاس ہے پر اکثر لوگ نہیں جانتے | ||||||
| Abul Ala Maududi | مگر اُن کا حال یہ تھا کہ جب اچھا زمانہ آتا تو کہتے کہ ہم اِسی کے مستحق ہیں، اور جب برا زمانہ آتا تو موسیٰؑ اور اس کے ساتھیوں کو اپنے لیے فال بد ٹھیراتے، حالانکہ در حقیقت ان کی فال بد تو اللہ کے پاس تھی، مگر ان میں سے اکثر بے علم تھے | ||||||

| Literal | So if the good/goodness came to them, they said: "This (is) for us." And if a sin/crime hits/strikes them , they get (have) a bad omen with Moses and whom (is) with him. Is it not, but their bad omen (is) at God, and but most of them do not know. | ||||||

| Sarwar | But they would always ascribe their well-being to themselves and the misfortunes that they would experience to Moses and his people. Their fate is certainly in the hands of God but many of them do not know. | ||||||
| H/K/Saheeh | But when good came to them, they said, "This is ours [by right]." And if a bad [condition] struck them, they saw an evil omen in Moses and those with him. Unquestionably, their fortune is with Allah, but most of them do not know. | ||||||
| Malik | But whenever they had good times they said "It is our due," and whenever evil befell them, they ascribed that bad luck to Moses and those with him. Behold! In fact their misfortune was in the hands of Allah; yet most of them do not know.[131] | ||||||

| QXP Shabbir Ahemd** | (Instead of reflecting and taking corrective action, they sought the easy way out.) All good that came along, they ascribed it to their own worthiness, and any affliction that struck them, they blamed it on the bad omen of Moses and his companions. Most people know not that there is no such thing as a bad omen or a good omen. People determine their destiny according to Allah's Laws. In that sense, then, omens are with Allah alone. | ||||||
